Thermal energy accounts for more than half of total industrial consumption and is crucial for reducing CO₂ emissions. The panel will showcase how Power-to-Heat technologies enable the conversion of surplus wind and solar electricity into heat for industrial use and district heating. It will highlight high-efficiency heat pumps, geothermal and solar thermal systems, and the integration of renewables and energy storage into unified systems. Participants will discuss technical, regulatory, and investment aspects, supported by best-practice examples from Europe and the region.
- Dr. sc. Peter Heusser, Schweizerischer Verband für Umwelttechnik, SVUT (Swiss Association for Environmental Technology)
- Michael Tobler, IG Holzenergie Nordwestschweiz (Association for Wood Energy of Northwestern Switzerland)
- Dejan Ostojić, Director of the Technical Production Department, EPS AD
- Marko Radin, Regional Sales Manager, BIOGEST
- Rade Mrdak, Advisor to the Minister for Renewable Energy Sources, Ministry of Mining and Energy
- Radomir Milovanović, Project Manager, UNDP
- Lidija Zelić, Director, Biogas Serbia Association
Panel Introduction: Marko Radin, Regional Sales Manager, BIOGEST (15 minutes)
Biomethane is one of the most promising renewable energy sources in the region, with significant potential for converting agricultural residues, organic waste, and manure into clean energy. The panel brings together companies and experts developing biogas plants and biomethane upgrade technologies, showcasing real examples from Serbia and Europe.
Participants will discuss technical solutions, industrial and transport applications, current and planned regulations, as well as financial instruments and support from international development funds. Special attention will be given to whether traditional biogas plants will gradually become obsolete and if the future belongs solely to modern biomethane facilities—or whether both technologies will coexist in the energy mix.
- Dr Nenad Ristić, Senior R&D Project Planning Manager, ELIXIR Group
- Marko Muhadinović, Technical Director, Lafarge Cement Factory
- Jelena Simić Jarić, Director of Corporate Banking, Public Sector and Special Financing, ERSTE Bank
- Teodora Kovačević, Sustainability Leader, IKEA Serbia
- Miloš Tipsarević, CBAM Tracker
In an era of increasingly strict climate policies, the European (and upcoming domestic) CBAM mechanism and sustainability reporting present a challenge for Western Balkan industries: how to decarbonize production processes without losing competitiveness or jobs.
The panel opens discussion on real-world experiences of companies already implementing decarbonization, ESG standard compliance challenges, CBAM cost pressures, and available financial mechanisms for green transformation. A special focus will be on the public debate about the draft laws on carbon-intensive import taxation and greenhouse gas emission taxation, which will further define Serbia’s obligations and challenges in its green transition process.
- Miloš Kostić, Director, MT KOMEX
- Gordan Vujičić, Director of Strategic Development, ENEL PS
- Dušan Đukić, Business Process Analyst for Planning and Investments, Elektrodistribucija Srbije
- Marko Janković, Head of Electricity Market Affairs and Regulation, CWP Europe
Battery storage systems are becoming mandatory for connecting new RES projects and represent a key link in the energy system of the future. The panel brings together companies already applying BESS solutions — either stand-alone or within hybrid plants — focusing on technical challenges, regulation, business models (peak shaving, load shifting, balancing services) and investment return.
The focus is on market realities — from unregulated frameworks and limited ancillary services to new opportunities for BRPs, traders and aggregators through flexible real-time energy management.
- Petar Tatomirović, Head of Controls and Digitalization, Siemens Energy
- Nebojša Radmilović, Head of Complex Systems Regulation Department, Mihajlo Pupin Institute – Automation Division
- Ksenija Karić, Head of Business and Strategy, PULSEC
- Branko Tadić, Solution Architect EU Region, IBM
How can small solar and hybrid plants operate more profitably, safely and reliably? We’ll discuss SCADA monitoring and control, optimal plant operation, compliance with grid requirements through power plant controller solutions, smart asset management and cyber security — all key factors affecting performance, availability and energy delivery.
The focus is on SCADA systems, power plant controllers, advanced asset management tools and cyber security as essential components of reliable and optimal operation for solar and hybrid power plants.
